The Manchester United Signings

United made a big splash in the transfer window this summer on 6 new signings. Here's a small overview on what each of them bring to the squad.

Luke Shaw - One might argue the sum United paid Southampton for the talented left back. But this could turn out to be a wise investment if Shaw lasts a decade marshaling the left flank. He has the pace, can assist attacks and is pacey. This is the kind of player who can thrive in Van Gaal's 3-5-2.
What remains to be seen is how well he links up with the midfield now consisting of some of the World's biggest names.

Ander Herrera - David Moyes desperately tried to bring in the former Sociedad man. He is quick on the ball, dribbles well and has a knack of picking up players in the final third for that killer through ball. What remains to be seen is how well he links with Di Maria and how well his supplies are for the forward line of Rooney, Van Persie and Falcao. He primarily is used to playing in the number 10 position. but don't be surprised if he is deployed more on a holding mid this season.

Marcos Rojo - His work permit issues have been just fixed. Di Maria's Argentine teammate, is a more unproven commodity from all the other signings this season. He is 25, fast and can play in central defense and on the flanks. The only thing that remains to be seen is where LvG uses him.

Angel Di Maria - One of the biggest movements of the summer. Di Maria comes on the back of an excellent world cup for Argentina. Many would question Madrid's transfer policy of letting one of their mainstays leave and unnecessarily destabilize the side. Di Maria is every manager's dream. You can play him virtually anywhere in the mid-field and he slots in perfectly well. With 22 assists in the La Liga last term, Di Maria has all that it takes to give the United mid-field a major boost.

Daley Blind - Blind is not someone who will score a lot of goals or win matches on his own. But he is a hard working player who makes others look good on the field. He was used as a left back in the World Cup for Netherlands, but is expected to line up in mid-field for United. This is his favored position. Then Ajax coach, Martin Jol had not even considered Blind for his first team. Later when Frank De Boer took over as Ajax boss was when Blind got his big break. Initially he was even booed by the Ajax faithful for not being of the quality required to pull the Ajax shirt. But his hard work paid off and he was the Eridivise player of the season.

Radamel Falcao - One of the most sensational signings of the summer. Falcao might have spent the better half of last season on the sidelines, even missing the World Cup but he remains a fearful threat in front of goal. This is the reason United agreed for a loan deal to the tune of 20 million pounds. If Falcao can get going along with Di Maria, it is the partnership everyone is waiting to see.

All in all United have strengthened their squad in key areas. Many would have hoped for a better defensive cover, but Van Gaal's confident that this squad should help Man Utd of the slump they are in.
